SNOWMOBILING

One of the best ways to explore the Lake Tahoe area in winter is to rent a snowmobile or take a guided tour.  Away from the developed ski areas you will find spectacular scenery and complete solitude as these snow machines whisk you away quickly into the wilderness.  

One caution, you can travel farther in 5 minutes on a snowmobile than you can walk in an entire day.  So, never travel alone, always tell someone where you are going and when you will be back and bring water and food in case of emergencies.  Every year people die in the Sierras when they use snowmobiles in the back country and get stuck in deep snow, set off an avalanche or fall victim to a raging blizzard.  

Enjoy the back country and don't become a statistic.
