SWIMMING

Incline Village has 2 private swimming pools that are available for residents and lodging guests to use.  At the Rec Center, you will find a full-size indoor pool with 8 lanes.  I recommend that you call the Rec Center ahead of time and check on the scheduled times for lap swimming, aqua-aerobics and open swim periods.  This pool is open all year.

At the Burnt Cedar Beach at the west end of Lakeshore Blvd. you will find a swimming pool that is generally open from June to Labor Day.  Although it tends to be a bit noisy and crowded on holidays and weekends, families love this pool.  To get access to the pool you will need to pay the daily use fee at the beach.

There are lots of other places to go swimming, especially the smaller coves around Lake Tahoe in the summer time as these areas tend to warm up a bit more than the rest of the lake.  Here are some personal favorite spots for a swim.

Hidden Beach - Located about 1 mile south of the old Ponderosa Ranch.  Very limited parking, so go before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m.  Park only in legal spots along Hwy 28 and follow one of the many paths through the shrubs down to the lake.  Wear long pants for the short hike down to the lake unless you don't mind getting scratched up.  This beach gets sun later than anywhere else at the lake and is a great place to watch the beautiful summer sunsets.

Sand Harbor - The nicest stretch of sand anywhere on the lake, this is about 3 miles south of the old Ponderosa Ranch on Hwy 28.  Swim on the side of the beach that is farthest south and away from the boat ramp.  Daily fee for parking.

Homewood - Although a bit rocky in places, there is a very nice stretch of public beach on the west shore along Hwy 89 about 10 minutes south of Tahoe City.  The sun drops behind the mountains early, so this spot is best before 4 p.m.

Pope Beach - Located between South Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay on Hwy 89.  Generally opens in late May or early June.  Relatively empty on weekdays, this beach is very popular with the weekend crowd due to its proximity to South Lake Tahoe.  Eagle nesting area is nearby and is a great place to go in the fall or winter for a bit of solitude.

Truckee River - While not the best place to swim, there are numerous places to stop along the river and soak your feet or jump in for a quick dip.  Watch out for strong currents, especially in the spring and early summer.
